Upper Shore Society for Human Resource Management

Logo for the Eastern Shore Society for Human Resource Management

The USMBC has cultivated a close working relationship with the Upper Shore Society for Human Resource Management.  The Upper Shore SHRM was established in September 2009 as a satellite chapter of the Eastern Shore SHRM and will soon become its own chapter.  Its goal is to provide ongoing professional development for human resources managers, supervisors and administrative personnel working in the five counties of Maryland’s Upper Eastern Shore region – Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot.

US-SHRM Meetings and Presentations

Monthly meetings of the Upper Shore Society for Human Resource Management are held on the campus of Chesapeake College, which is also home to the Upper Shore Manufacturing & Business Council as well as the Upper Shore Workforce Investment Board, another organizational resource that works very closely with the USMBC.

Each US-SHRM meeting features a guest speaker or special topic, such as:

  • Employment law updates
  • Details on the Employee Free Choice Act
  • ADA amendments (Americans for Disability Act)
  • Healthcare reform issues
  • HR-oriented aspects of hiring independent contractors
  • Best practices in unemployment policies and procedures
  • EEO issues (equal employment opportunities), including EEO “mock trials”

Access to National HR Resources

The Upper Shore SHRM is a satellite chapter of the Eastern Shore Society for Human Resource Management, which in turn is an affiliate of the national SHRM organization.  This provides direct access to the resources of the world’s largest association devoted to human resources management, with more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries.
