Career Development ProgramsThe Upper Shore Manufacturing & Business Council helps inform teachers of the needs of local employers through hands-on programs and training. In addition, work-based learning opportunities for high school students seeking “real world” experience in the manufacturing world prior to graduation are also coordinated through the USMBC. MEPE – Manufacturing & Education Partnership for Excellence – A formal program that links teachers with Upper Eastern Shore companies and organizations, focusing on job skills and how to relate them to the classroom curriculum. Each ten-week program consists of teacher visits one evening per week at local manufacturers featuring a company presentation with tour, and dinner. Programs are scheduled each Spring semester. Program participation size is limited and is determined via a competitive application process. Teacher Summer Externships – Teachers are placed with Upper Eastern Shore businesses for a 35-hour work week to gather data on all aspects of the industry to pass on to their students. Seminars for Educators – Educators and businesses meet to discuss job opportunities and the skills students will be required to possess to fill these positions upon graduation. Career Days – Students from the five county region visit Chesapeake College and other organizations to learn first-hand from professionals in a variety of career fields.
