BRIDGE TO OPPORTUNITY

CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

This USMBC initiative seeks to develop educators' awareness of the needs of local employers through various hands-on and training programs.  It also provides advanced work-based learning experience opportunities for high school students.

The following Career Development Programs are at the heart of this initiative:  For more information, contact USMBC.

MEPE
(Manufacturing and Education Partnership for Excellence)
Eight-week (one evening per week) programs for teachers with local manufacturers.  Each evening features a company presentation with tour, and dinner.  A project based on necessary job skills and how to relate them in the classroom is required.
Teacher Summer Externships Teacher teams are placed with local businesses for a 35-hour work week to gather data on all aspects of the industry to pass on to their students.
Seminars for Educators Educators and businesses meet to discuss job opportunities, required skills and curriculum delivery issues.
METE (Manufacturing/Engineering/
Technology Exploration)
In addition to their regular curriculum, high school juniors and seniors are offered dual enrollment in manufacturing-related courses at the Manufacturing Training Center at Chesapeake College.
